Charles Brown (September 13, 1922 – January 21, 1999)
Honoring the late great pianist CHARLES BROWN at Texas City’s first annual Blues Festival on November 3, 2007. Charles Brown was a classically trained musician and learned to play the piano at Greater Barbour’s Chapel Church and was the composer as such hits as Driftin Blues, Trouble Blues, Get Yourself Another Fool, In The Evening When The Sun Goes Down. Charles Brown developed a unique and popular piano style referred to as “cocktail blues”. Texas City is proud to host along with the Texas City Cultural Arts Foundation the Texas City Music Fest by the Bay.
Now in its sixth year, the Texas City Music Fest by the Bay, “A Charles Brown Day of Remembrance”, has progressed rapidly from its modest beginnings and blossomed into a musical event that attracts thousands of fans from across Galveston and Harris counties. By continually broadening the scope of featured music, the festival now provides wide appeal to music lovers of every age and genre.
The Texas City Music Fest by the Bay has now added Friday night performances to bring the festival two days of live entertainment spotlighting local artists as well as top name bands in Texas Country music, Cajun & Zydeco, and of course Blues. In addition to the great lineup of musical entertainment planned, the festival offers a variety of activities, vendors and kids zone to entertain adults and children alike
